✦ Synopsis

Phenotypic sex of hatchling painted turtles (Chrysemys picta), a species known to exhibit temperature-dependent sex determination, is influenced by the hydric environment to which developing embryos are subjected. Hatchling sex ratios vary significantly over the range of 26.5 to 28.5"C due to effects of the hydric environment.
