Hydration of C3S in salt solutions having ions in common with its hydration products was investigated by calorimetry and aqueous phase analyses. Soluble calcium salts, which depress hydroxyl ion concentrations in solution by promoting Ca(OH) 2 precipitation, were observed to accelerate hydration. Ac
