Influence of Gd 2 BaCuO 5 secondary phase on the c-axis and ab-plane thermoelectric power of the melt-grown ternary (Nd 1=3 Sm 1=3 Gd 1=3 )Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7Àd superconductor has been studied. There is an indication of (1) a possible change of conduction mechanism from hole to electron type, (2) enhanced metallic behavior, and (3) reduced anisotropy. The latter two features would strongly enhance the high application potential of these materials.
