✦ Synopsis

Preliminary investigations of Zn 3 P2 single crystals suggested two models of surface reactions with wet air. ESR paramagnetic signals have been observed in powdered samples. The influence of surface reactions of saturated vapours of H20 in the presence of air at room temperature, as well as annealing with phosphorus and heating at 500Β°C under vacuum on the original ESR signals has been studied. The results of these treatments on the ESR signal strongly depend on the type of samples: high or low electrical resistivity, related to the amount of phosphorus in the Zn3P 2 structure.
