โฆ Synopsis
Structural fluctuations occurring around structural phase transitions can strongly influence the dynamical characteristics of solids. Formulae are derived explicitly showing the role of these fluctuations on the following: softening of phonon frequencies, diminishing of the effective Debye temperature, increase of the mean-square displacement of atoms, sound-velocity attenuation near the point of a structural transition and the corresponding enhancement of the isothermic compressibility, anomalous sagging of the Mossbauer factor at the transition temperature and its linear deviation in the vicinity of a nucleation point.
