✦ Synopsis

In a previous paper, radiant ignition of a surface-cooled reactive solid for small values of the ratio of the gas to solid thermal responsivity was analyzed. Here. these results are extended to moderate and large values of this ratio by treating the nondimensional activation temperature as a large parameter in an asymptotic analysis. Interior ignitions occur because in-depth absorption is taken into account. Graphs of ignition time are obtained for various responsivity ratios, thereby generalizing results reported by Linan and Williams. It is shown that the responsitivity ratio has a large influence on ignition time for surface absorption, but that, as the absorptivity decreases, the influence of the responsivity ratio rapidly diminishes.
