โฆ Synopsis
The YBCO layer of coated conductors is usually covered by a protective layer of metal such as silver. From the viewpoint of stability and quench protection, a thicker protective layer is preferable, but an increase in the thickness of the protective layer might result in an increase in the AC loss. In this work, pieces of YBCO coated conductors fabricated by the IBAD/PLD method are prepared, and silver layers of different thickness are placed on the samples. The magnetization losses of these samples are measured in a transverse magnetic field by the linked pick-up coil method. The orientation of the applied transverse magnetic field against the tape wide face, the frequency of the applied magnetic field, and the amplitude of the applied magnetic field are varied to study the influence of silver layer thickness on magnetization loss of YBCO coated conductors.
