The dependence of the rotation of the mesogenic unit around its long axis (prelaxation) on the actual mesophase in liqid crystalline polymethac ylates and polyacrylates was studied by dielectric spectroscopy in the frequency range from 10-2Hz to 106Hz and in a temperature range from 170 K to 430 K.

a b s t r a c t Charging of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) in the presence of different alkali metal counterions was studied by precision potentiometric titration. The charging behavior can be described with a novel cylinder Stern model quantitatively. This model is based on the Poisson-Boltzmann equation
