✦ Synopsis
Most attention is given to the deterioration of concrete during freezing and thawing, but the influence of presaturation by different salt concentrations is not much considered. In this work the samples have been presaturated with water and NaCI of two different concentrations. The samples were tested using different freeze-thaw methods. Length changes during these processes were measured. It is seen that during presaturation the maximum swelling occurred in water whereas during freezing and thawing swelling depends upon the salt concentration gradient. It was greater in dilute salt solution than that in the saturated solution.
