The current work is an extension of the authors' earlier work and presents a life prediction methodology under interspersed mode-I and mixed-mode (I and II) overloads. The important controlling parameter in the model is 'specific growth rate' (m). It depends on two crack driving forces i.e. stress i

The opening (mode I) and sliding (mode II) components of the energy that is released during an incremental extension of an interface crack between two different elastic materials are evaluated by the Irwin's crack closure method. Each component of the energies (G~ and G~) is expressed in terms of th

Almost all load bearing components usually experience variable amplitude loading (VAL) rather than constant amplitude loading (CAL) during their service lives. A single overload cycle introduced in a constant amplitude fatigue loading retards fatigue crack growth and increases residual fatigue life.
