✦ Synopsis
The aim of this work was to investigate the crystallographic structure, size distribution and chemical composition of FINEMET type powders after long milling (20 h up to 1800 h). Three different powder samples have been prepared and investigated: the first one by milling of amorphous ribbon with a chemical composition of Fe 73.5 Cu 1 Nb 3 Si 13.5 B 9 , the second by milling of the same ribbon but in a partially nanocrystalline state, and the third was prepared from powders of the pure elements of which FINEMET consists. Experimental results confirm that particle size distribution, crystallographic structure and chemical composition of the powders depend on all the investigated parameters: milling time and the character of the initial material before milling.
