As a prior treatment to HIP, AA8090 (AI-Li-Cu-Mg-Zr) powders are baked to remove the moisture adsorbed in powder surfaces. DSC analysis shows that moisture can be removed completely by baking. The influence of processing parameters of HIP on the mechanical properties is examined. Specimens consolidated by HIP have nearly full density, low porosity and fine grain structure, and the mechanical properties have been improved. However, the value of tensile strength is relatively low as compared with casted aluminium-lithium alloys because fracture occurs at particle boundaries.
