Maximum accumulation of ergosterol by Rhodotorula glutinis IIP-30 [4% (w/w) of the biomass] was at pH 4 and 28 to 30ยฐC, wich glucose or sucrose as carbon source and (NH4)2SO4 as N-source. Molasses only gave 1% (w/w) ergosterol content, as did KNO3 or urea when used as sole N source.
