Large variety of multiphase systems is treated in dispersing operations in order to generate a well defined disperse microstructure. Beside material properties as viscosity and interfacial tension, the ratio of shear and elongational forces in the flow field is of importance. In this paper we focus

โฆ Synopsis
When separating two immiscible liquids with a hydrocyclone a change of the entrance droplet size distribution occurs within the flow field of the hydrocyclone. This change, caused by droplet breakup and/or coalescence, has a decisive influence on the separation efficiency and has to be taken into account when designing a hydrocyclone for liquid/liquid separation. With a new design model a reliable design of hydrocyclones for liquid/liquid separation is possible.
