## Abstract Ultraviolet (UV) total solar irradiation, 290β385 nm (UVT), at ground level in Valladolid, Spain (lat. 41Β°40β²N, long. 4Β°50β²W and 840 m a.s.l.), has been recorded from February 2001 to June 2008. The temporal evolution of the UVT irradiation follows a sinusoidal pattern with maximums in

Abstract
This paper analyzes the influence of cloudiness and cloud genera on sunshine duration based on a very long (1884β2007) homogeneous daily nephological and sunshine duration data series for the City of Krakow. Quadratic regression was used to describe the relationship between sunshine duration and cloudiness. It has been shown that cloudiness affects sunshine duration the most in June and July, and the least in December, January and February. High clouds (Cirrus, Cirrostratus, Cirrocumulus) do not interrupt the recording of sunshine duration even when they completely cover the sky. Layered clouds such as Stratus and Nimbostratus, on the other hand, do not transmit solar radiation at all. The degree of influence of different cloud genera on sunshine duration changes very little from season to season and with respect to the position of the Sun over the horizon. When the Sun is positioned higher over the horizon, clouds are less able to weaken solar radiation, resulting in larger sunshine duration values. This is especially true with respect to the following clouds: Cirrus, Cirrostratus and Cumulus. It has been shown that daytime sunshine duration patterns can be a very good indicator of cloud type and cloudiness variability. Copyright Β© 2011 Royal Meteorological Society

## Abstract The occurrences of typical sky conditions during overcast days are close to the CIE Overcast Sky Standard in the Bratislava area; their variation is specified by the diffuse coefficient __k__~dd~ = __D__~v~/__E__~v~ where __D__~v~ is the horizontal diffuse illuminance and __E__~v~ is th
## Abstract The influence of cloudiness over experimental UV erythemal radiation (UVER) has been studied. This influence has been analysed considering total cloudiness and low clouds. The measurements of cloudiness correspond to the daily values registered at 13:00 GMT at the Meteorological Centre

Measurements of the duration of bright sunshine, n, using the Campbell-Stokes sunshine recorder are shown to be highly correlated with those obtained using a normal incidence pyrheliometer to measure direct irradiance, I, at two sites in the very dissimilar radiation climates of Israel and Ireland.
