The polarographic hydrogen wave of hydrochloric acid in non-aqueous methanolic sohrtions shifts towards less negative potentials in presence of traces of triphenylphosphine, -arsine and -stibine. Tbe three additives exert a catalytic effect on the hydrogen-evolution reaction. This character has been
