✦ Synopsis

The problem of solid solution, theoretical and experimental, is discussed and the papers presented on the subject fall into two parts: the first describes electronic structures : "ordinary alloys, transitional impurities, and transitional matrices."

The second part of the book deals with atomic structures: short-range order and Guinier-Preston zones, and long-range order (classical and periodic antiphase domain boundaries) are reviewed. Also discussed are long-range perturbations produced by impurities in metals and the effects of these perturbations on atomic ordering, magnetic coupling, magnetic resonance, and superconductivity. A review of interactions between vacancies and impurities is presented and properties of alloys with periodic antiphase domain boundaries are discussed.
