✦ Synopsis
Low-energy magnetic excitations at the special point of the magnetic Brillouin zone (MBZ) boundary, crystallographically equivalent to the MBZ-centre, were found in the Mn (18% Cu) alloy in our earlier study. Here, the magnetic excitations are investigated by inelastic neutron scattering in the temperature range 300-400 K in a 68%single domain sample of Mn (18% Cu) alloy. Below T N , the intensity of magnetic excitations in the vicinity of the MBZcentre increases when the temperature is lowered. Similar effects were observed in Mn (13.7% Ni) but the spin dynamics in the Mn-Cu alloy is more complex with additional excitations, different from spin waves, present at the MBZ centre. Above T N , the decay rate of the fluctuations observed at the (0 0 1) reciprocal lattice point is different from that at the (1 0 0) point, indicating a memory of the previous domain orientation.
