โœฆ Synopsis

The Netherlands Railways have great problems in satisfying the noise limits in railway yards. A short description of the Dutch noise legislation for railways is given. One of the noise sources in railway yards is squeal noise. An investigation has been started in order to reduce this noise. Measurements were taken at a small-radius curve, part of which was sprayed with water. The results of these measurements were good: reductions of 6-11 dB in the equivalent noise levels were achieved.
