Two kinds of ferrite powder were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. High-grade Fe 2 O 3 powder containing about 30 ppm Si and Al was analyzed directly by slurry injection while relatively impure Fe 2 O 3 was dissolved by high-pressure acid digestion followed by matr

✦ Synopsis
The direct injection of solids-water slurries into the torch of an inductively coupled plasmaatomic emission spectrometer offers a quick and easy method for the analysis of major and minor elements in various solids. In this project aqueous slurries of solids were prepared by wet milling with a stirred-ball slurry attritor mill and analyzed. Slurries of standard reference materials, prepared in the same way, were used as calibration standards. The best results were obtained with solids having a small particle size (2-5 mm) and a close distribution of particle sizes. The average percent relative error for slurry-ICP analysis of most major and minor elements was generally less than 5% for the solids studied.
