โฆ Synopsis
This volume considers a variety of issues involving the use of elemental analysis with plant samples. Introductory chapters consider historical aspects of elemental analysis of plants and the occurrence and significance of elements in plants. The classification of elements on the basis of their biological functions (the Biological System of Elements) is compared with chemical classifications, such as the periodic table. The use of plants as bioindicators of metal concentrations is described, with emphasis on the use of mosses. The conclusion of the volume is a discussion of instrumental analysis of environmental samples. This chapter includes formulating an environmental analytical study, sampling, and sample preparation. Brief descriptions of instrumental methods and data evaluation conclude the chapter. The volume includes a generous number of references and several useful appendixes involving trace elements and plants. For example, the essentiality, occurrence, toxicity, and uptake form of elements is summarized in one table. This volume provides a lot of useful information regarding elemental analysis of plants and its applications.
