โฆ Synopsis
An inductive shielded core fault current limiter model using a commercially available melt cast processed Bi-2212 tube was realized and tested. The device was designed with a nominal power rate of 0.5 kVA. Static tests were initially performed to determine the non-linear Z(I) characteristic of the limiter and its threshold current. To study its limiting behaviour, current and voltage signals across the primary coil were recorded during fault simulations. The experimental results show that the impedance suddenly raises limiting the current to about four times the nominal value and then slowly continues to increase due to heating of the superconducting tube. A fault power up to 3 kVA was achieved and the limiting fault current was about l/3 of the unlimited value. The dynamic response of the superconductive tube was also investigated.
