✦ Synopsis
The inductive effect of lactose,S-methyl-thio-g-galactopyranoside,
(TMG) and glucose on B galactosidase synthesis in Kluyveromyces lactis has been _ .~ ---_~ studied. Whereas TMG gave a five fold stimulation of the rate of @galactosidase synthesis, lactose only gave a small stimulation. Glucose caused represssion at levels above 10 -3 M but stimulated B-galactosidase synthesis when added at lower concentrations.

A study of the cross-linking immobilization of -galactosidase from Kluyveromyces lactis on graphite surfaces is reported here. The cross-linking reagent was glutaraldehyde. Thermal deactivation of the immobilized enzyme at the temperatures from 35 to 55 • C was investigated, and the deactivation ra
Vectors containing fusions of the Candida albicans ACT promoter to heterologous genes were constructed and transformed into a C. albicans host strain. beta-Galactosidase (Lac4p) activity was detected in transformants carrying an ACT fusion to the Kluyveromyces lactis LAC4 gene, while fusions to the
The growth of two strains of the "petite-negative" yeast Kluyveromyces lactis is inhibited by Tetracycline in different ways under the same culture conditions. Tetracycline resistant mutants of one strain have been isolated which can tolerate doses as high as 3000 microgram/ml of antibiotic. The seg
