✦ Synopsis
The magnetic form factor of Sm in mixed-valence SmB 6 has been measured, using polarized neutrons, on a single crystal prepared from low-absorption isotopes ISaSm and HB. In an applied field of H = 5 T, the induced magnetic moment is close to 0.02/* u at T = 7 K, and the analysis of the flipping ratios for 11 sets of equivalent Bragg reflections, performed in the dipolar approximation, is in agreement with a purely Sm 2~ form factor. No significant change is observed when T is increased to 100 K. These results are similar to those reported previously for SInS under pressure and are consistent with recent inelastic scattering measurements.
