✦ Synopsis

Emfis in aqueous solutions of CaCl, were measured using a Ca*+ specific electrode and a gZz&ctrode, each opposed by a calomel electrode either with a KC1 or a KNO, bridge. . . urements were carried out with the two ion-spec&c electrodes opposing each other. The liquid junction potentials were evaluated for the two bridges using the Henderson equation. Activity coefficients were calculated from the emfs obtained, both for the electro-neutral CaCI, and for the ionic species, using various assumptions concerning individual ion activities. The experimental results, combined with the liquid-junction potentials obtained, are consistent with the MacInncs convention. The other assumptions considered do not give consistent results.

## Abstract The work examines the structural transitions of DNA under the action of Cu^2+^ and Ca^2+^ ions in aqueous solution at temperatures of 29 and 45°C by ir spectroscopy. Upon binding to the divalent ions studied, DNA transits into the compact state both at 29 and 45°C. In the compact state

## Abstract Poly(hydroxyalkyl‐L‐glutamine) (alkyl = ethyl, propyl, butyl) solutions have been studied by CD as functions of temperature and activity of calcium chloride and sodium perchlorate. Helical content is altered by changes in salt activity and temperature. The helicity of poly(hydroxybutyl‐
