โœฆ Synopsis

The composition of the essential oil distilled from freshly cut leaves and branchlets of the tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia Cheel) grown in India was analysed by GC and GC-MS and the results compared with those of oils of Australian origin. Terpinen-4-ol and l$-cineole amounted to 36.4 and 5.6% respectively in the oil, an inverse relationship which is the crucial parameter recommended by the Standards Association of Australia for oil of Melaleuca altemifolia.
