In this paper the authors deal with a simple method designed to be more successful at attempts made to induce polyploidy in fruit trees . The application of partial etiolation before colchicine treatment and the addition of gibberellic acid to the colchicine solution, considerably increased the number of mixoploid shoots in grapes . The influence of these two factors seem to be due to more cell elongation and cell division, the former promoting better permeability to colchicine and the latter accelerating faster cell division of the treated tissues .
