✦ Synopsis
We review two approaches to calculate the next-to-leading order cross section for the inclusive production of charm quarks using either massive or massless quarks. We discuss the massless limit derived from the massive theory. This limit differs from the genuine massless version with MS factorization by finite corrections. By adjusting subtraction terms a massive theory with MS subtraction is established, which approaches the massless theory very fast with increasing transverse momentum.
Adding direct, single-resolved and double-resolved contributions the inclusive D"' cross section in yy collisions is calculated and compared with data from the L3 Collaboration. Except for very small pi good agreement is found.
