Jürgen measure molecular self-diffusion of hydrocarbons in zeolites by the (at that time) newly developed field gradient technique of nuclear magnetic resonance. He found that the intrinsic self-diffusion coefficients of hydrocarbons in porous materials are about 5 orders of magnitude larger than commonly assumed. This was of course a very important experimental finding for technical adsorption and catalysis based on microporous materials.
