Mike passed away on November 6, 2009. For all those who knew him, Mike was an African Geologist, and one of those who freely gave of his time in the field on this continent and with his students. His first academic steps were as Lecturer in Geology at the University of Ghana, Department of Geology, between 1972 and 1978. From that time onwards, his research effort was concentrated on the lakes of Africa.
