In memoriam SOren Jensen
SCren Jensen suddenly died on Sunday, February 2, 1997, from a heart problem. He is survived by his wife Pauline, and his three daughters, Sine, Elizabeth and Tasha.
SCren received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1985, under the guidance of Ivo Babu~ka. After graduating, he joined the faculty of the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 1992. Besides being an accomplished and well-known researcher in the field of finite element methods, with over thirty articles to his credit, he was also one of the department's best and most popular teachers. Friends, colleagues and students will miss his dependable smile, his sunny personality, his wit and intelligence, his broad and far-reaching mathematical knowledge, his patience at explaining things, and the many other unique and wonderful qualities that made him so universally well-liked.
