His passing brought to an end an active and brilliant career in agricultural meteorology.
Dr. Sinelshikov was well-known internationally for his many contributions to science and for his participation in international bodies. From 1946 to 1951 he was President of the I.M.O. Commission for Agricultural Meteorology. In 1953, as the new World Meteorological Organization was in its formative stage, Dr. Sinelshikov was Principal Delegate for the U.S.S.R. at the first session of the new Commission for Agricultural Meteorology in Paris. At the fourth session of that Commission, at Manila in 1967, while again representing his country, he was unanimously elected Vice-President.
Readers of this journal will recall that he had been a member of the editorial board of Agricultural Meteorology since its inception and had contributed to its contents.
At the time of his death, Dr. Sinelshikov was Deputy-Director of the Institute of Experimental Meteorology, Obninsk, where he was directing the development of that branch of agricultural meteorology which he considered the most important, namely field experiments. During the last thirty years of his life he held many important posts in operational and scientific institutes of the U.S.S.R. Hydrometeorological Service and had contributed to the investigation and solution of a number of basic problems in the organization and the application of scientific principles to agrometeorological services.
His co-workers remember him as "a talented organizer and a man whose enormous industry and cordiality will ever remain in the memory of those who knew him and worked with him".
