Al Dahlberg died of a heart attack on July 30, 1993, doing what he loved, working on his farm where, he said, "he wished to finish his life." His ashes remain on this farm he loved, and where he had continued to indulge his passion for research in dental anthropology even after his retirement from his dental practice and faculty position at the University of Chicago in 1979.
