✦ Synopsis

It is with great sadness that we report on the passing of Professor Adalberto Vallega, Associate Editor, Ocean & Coastal Management. He was one of the best human beings I personally have ever known-incessant in his quest to improve ocean and coastal management, so dedicated to advancing his profession of marine geography, so helpful to the journal. At a personal level, he was always a delight to be with-with his non-stop analytical mind, his charm, his loyal friendship, and, not least of all, the constant twinkle in his eye and his welcoming smile. He will be sorely missed by all of us, and we will remember him always for his contributions to our field, to policy, and to our own lives.

The following editorial was prepared by three of Adalberto Vallega's close colleagues over the years: Juan Luis Sua´rez de Vivero, Stefano Belfiore, and Fabiana Callegari. In addition, what is to be, unfortunately, Adalberto Vallega's last published manuscript for Ocean & Coastal Management appears in this volume in tribute to him.
