The transient response of a cantilever beam is investigated for the stresses and displacements. The study is carried out for short and long duration impulse loads. The effects of impulse duration, damping and location of application of load are studied. The deflection and the stress histories and co

β¦ Synopsis
Beams with discontinuity in the thickness and subjected to an impulse load at a point are analyzed. A beam element with two degrees of freedom per node is used for the analysis. Three beam models are analyzed for possible reduction of maximum displacement and maximum stress by choosing the discontinuity at different locations. Numerical results are presented for clamped-clamped and simply supported end conditions and for various step-ratios in the thickness. The weight of the beam is kept constant for various step-ratios. It is shown that the maximum displacement and maximum stress decrease for a certain type of thickness variations.

The transverse vibration of a beam with intermediate point constraints subject to a moving load is analyzed by using the Euler beam theory and the assumed mode method. The point constraints in the form of supports are assumed to be linear springs of large stiffness. Results of numerical simulations
The problem of transverse vibrations of homogeneous isotropic rotating beams due to the passage of dierent types of loads is of considerable practical interest. Using analytical and numerical methods, this paper investigates the stochastic dynamic response of a rotating simply supported beam subject
Analytic solutions are derived for a horizontal curved beam subjected to vertical and horizontal moving loads. The horizontal moving loads may be regarded as the centrifugal forces generated by vehicles moving along a curved path, which were rarely studied by previous researchers. Both a single movi
