โœฆ Synopsis

In art, there are problems with the representation of space in the plane of a picture. Solutions to these problems from ancient cultures are described. Connections between Perception Psychology and geometrical drawings made by children are discussed, as are the development of spatial elements in children's drawings, different representations of linear perspective, isometry, 'Di]rer's Way', central and X-perspective.

The paper goes on to describe an educational software design course in Scandinavia. The design process is presented by an account of the methodological and pedagogical considerations that have led to the implementation of the spatial drawing program 'RUM'.
