A high aspect ratio seal is provided for a large, roller cone drill-bit. It is designed to offer an alternative to the traditional O-ring for sealing rock drill-bits. A seal with a deeper radial cross-section is used, which also has a reduced contact area.

โฆ Synopsis
This covers a gasket similar to that described in WO/2009/060689. In this case the sheath is described as PTFE or inorganic sheets that are laminated and bonded to the thin metal plate of core material. It is, again, claimed to work with both low and high compression forces. Large deformation of the sheet is controlled and thinner PTFE sheets (12, 13) or inorganic sheets can be used by preventing the low fluidity PTFE sheet or inorganic sheet from being broken even if a high fastening load is applied.

as sealants and adhesives is fitted with a plastic guide bearing to replace previous metal bearings. The material used is 25% carbon-filled PTFE and a further feature is that the bearing may be fitted without tools.
This patent details a pipe coupling that uses an approximate 'W-section' seal which sits across the pipe joint. It is contained in an outer housing that surrounds the seal and clips into a groove close to the end of the two pipe sections.
