## Abstract A highly birefringent microstructured optical fiber (HB‐MOF) is investigated by using a UPML‐FDFD method. Based on the numerical results, the influence of the air‐hole size and pitch upon the mode birefringence, confinement loss, and single‐mode properties is analyzed. These properties
