Welcoming delegates to this, the eighth Practical Diabetes International Foot Conference, the Joint Organising Chairman, Mike Edmonds (King's College Hospital, London, UK) pointed out that early intervention (the subject of this year's meeting) was particularly apt for this audience of podiatrists, nurses and doctors and other health care professionals, who were often seeing a patient for the very first time in order to make a diagnosis. Early intervention in order to prevent potential disaster in the at risk diabetic foot was a great responsibility but also a great opportunity. Copyright Β© 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
