Abstract
The design of a curriculum for a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology degree program has to consider many factors including how the curriculum satisfies the recommended curriculum published by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) that emphasizes a combination of content and student skills. This article discusses how the University of Richmond, a mediumβsized, private, predominantly undergraduate institution, has created an interdepartmental program based in the biology and chemistry departments that attempts to fulfill the guidelines of ASBMB. In addition, some of the benefits and problems associated with the creation of an interdepartmental program are discussed together with efforts to create a βresearchβrichβ environment for student learning.
