Country of Publication: Japan A new approximation method for computation of the Dempster-Shafer theoryis presented. The method can be applied to one useful class of belief functions in which all the sets with non-zero pcobability can be ordered with respect to an inclusion relation. The method reduces the amount of computation from an exponential order to a polynomial order. Error analysis and simulation have shown that the error induced by the approximation is negligible.
