will review experimental and theoretical work in which impedance techniques are being used as sensors to characterize the dynamic and static properties of solid-liquid composite media . Examples will be presented from electrochemistry, oil-well logging and solid-state physics . Theoretical models will include the models that are being developed by the oil logging industry, transmission line models and effective medium theories and equivalent circuit analysis . The characterization of porous Si will be used as an example .
