✦ Synopsis

PURPOSE. To analyse a characteristic color Doppler appearance (stimulated acoustic emission:SAE or sonoscintigraphy) observed on ultrasound following administration of Levovist@ (Scherinc AG, Berlin). PATIENTS AND METHODS: -1-d intravenous iniections .>f 2.5~ Levovist were riven to 3 healths v&teerS and 2j patients and 2 iljections of lg of Levovist were given to 2 healthy dogs. Subjects were scanned w'th the same ultrasound machine (Acuson Sequoia 51:h) Studies were evaluated by wnsenkus of 2 exueriencel observers for SAE signal, defined as a chkacterisric highly transient vel&ity color Doppler mosaic appcarancc in the parenchyma with strong dependent; on focal ?Ane and other machine settings. -RESULTS: SAE effects. lastinn ut) to 30 minutes. were seen in all subjects in the live;&d spleen. Some renal SAE was noted, lasting up to 6 minutes after injection, but no renat enhancen;ni was seen after this. Ho focal Liver lesion:; in the Datient studies was showed SAE. and the effect gene&y increased iesion conspicuity including raetastases (n=S), haemangiuma (n=3) and cysl~ (n=2,) Oplimnl imaging required high kansmil powers, low Doppler frequencies, high Doppler spatial resoluhon and high pulse repetition frcqucncies . CONCLUSION: This effect is reproducible and can improve the visualisation of focal liver lesions.
