Subpopulations of spleen cells responsible for responsiveness and unresponsiveness to cryptococcal antigen in vitro were identified. Lymphocytes which responded in lymphocyte transformation (LT) assays were nylon wool nonadherent and theta antigen positive. These lymphocytes required the presence of
