β¦ Synopsis
The immobilization o f various enzymes, mainly o f hydrolases, by carriers with e.g. maleimide, benzoquinone, N-substituted sulfamic acid, and diazonium groups will be described. As basic polymer mainly poly(viny1 alcohol) was used which was derivatized. The immobilization o f enzymes was performed also with synthetic wood pulp. The influence o f unfolding o f the enzyme chains during the immobilization reaction on the characteristics of the immobilization products as well as the influence of the spacer length on the immobilization was investigated. An example o f a soluble immobilized trypsin product is given. Some aspects o f the characterization of immobilized enzymes will be discussed. Also some examples o f whole cell immobilization as well as o f application of immobilized enzymes and immobilized whole cells will be described.
