โฆ Synopsis
The Intelligent Manufacturing Decision Support System (IMDS) is a knowledge-based system that captures, stores, and retrieves engineering issues.for designated Westinghouse Electric Corporation products. IMDS is utilized in a very user:friendly manner that makes the computer processing virtually invisible (transparent) to the user. Its deployment is expected to yield an annual savings of $5,468,750 in operating costs and offer significant management benefits for the company.

This paper describes an approach to engineering design in which fuzzy sets are used to represent the range of variants on existing mechanisms. Membership functions are chos
Constructing a knowledge-based system requires the identification of the conceptual primitives and problem-solving strategy that will permit capturing the expertise in an adapted way. This article presents an approach to support the elaboration of such a conceptual model by data abstraction. Our wor
