β¦ Synopsis
Imaging spectroscopy special issue
The technology, analytical methods, and environmental applications of imaging spectroscopy have steadily expanded in capability for more than 30 years, continuing to embody the cutting-edge of remote sensing. The responsibility for developing the field of imaging spectroscopy and achieving this success can be attributed to the work of a single person, namely Dr. Alexander F.H. Goetz.
To honor Dr. Alexander F.H. Goetz's lifetime achievements in imaging spectrometry, at the time of his retirement from the University of Colorado and decision to focus on further advancing scientific applications of spectrometry in his commercial spectrometer company, ASD Inc. in Boulder (CO, USA), IEEE offered two special sessions for invited speakers during the IGARSS conference held in Denver (CO, USA) in 2006. Twenty keynote speakers were invited to discuss past, current, and future achievements in the domain of imaging spectroscopy in a special session entitled, 'The State of Science of Environmental Applications of Imaging Spectroscopy' (Ustin and Schaepman, 2006).
The keynote speakers were asked to broadly review their subject areas and include relevant contributors in their papers and in their talks. Ultimately a total of 122 coauthors contributed to the session's papers and presentations, and therefore its success. The invited keynote talks were given by John MacDonald (Day4Energy), Rob Green (Jet
