✦ Synopsis
The mathematical method of projections onto convex sets was recently used for reconstructing images from incomplete data and a priori information. We have investigated the possibilities of extending these algorithms to enhancement of images distorted by some masking effect, by noise, or by an imperfect binarization process. In this paper, we present the principle and applications of an image processing method using projections onto convex sets, which concerns the field of character recognition. We give experimental results of images restored from discontinuous multilevel gray noisy data recorded with a periodic mask and results of experiments performed on incomplete bilevel images of characters.
