✦ Synopsis

For years, Matthew Davis worked through medical school at what started as his thesis. In that process, he develops a cure for certain blindness. He’s revered by students and professors alike. Even Johns Hopkins wants him. He and Emma, his college sweetheart, were inseparable. They’re invited to parties, dinners and events, rubbing elbows with the medical elite. Emma wanted it all. And she wanted it with Matthew, or so he thought. She even wanted his coveted position at Johns Hopkins, so she slept her way to the top to get it. Fourteen years later, after opening the Davis Institute, Matthew sees a beautiful brunette sitting in the window of his favorite hiding place, a rustic café just two blocks from his office. After agonizing for months to get the nerve to approach her, he decides to meet her service dog instead. Joy has been secretly watching the doctor for months. She knew the moment he walked into the room by the sound of his footsteps, the masculine scent of his cologne, even the manner in which he opens the door. Not versed on the ways of men, she can only dream about him. Until one day, he asks to give Conrad a treat. Matthew has been going through the agonizing process of getting his procedure approved by the Center for Global Research and Education, the Food and Drug Association and all the other associations on the planet. He’s tired, but will never give up. He knows it will work. He also knows that, after reviewing her medical records, it will work on Joy. The catch? She won’t allow him, or anyone, to touch her or perform yet another procedure on her. She’s been through it all, and that includes brain surgery. But he has a plan. Emma has other ideas, however. She corners Joy and reveals that Matthew plans on using her as his test patient to get funding approval, that, along with a few other devious fabrications concerning clandestine meetings with Matthew. Hurt and anger doesn’t describe Joy’s feelings when she confronts Matthew about Emma’s tale. Matthew has no recourse but to admit it, even though it’s only partially true. Humiliated, Joy walks out the biggest event of the season, leaving him behind. But before she leaves, she turns to him and has only one thing to say. "I’ll Be Seeing You."
