โฆ Synopsis
During the 1980s to mid 1990s pyrolysis mass spectrometry (PyMS) was extensively researched as a physico-chemical method for classifying and identifying bacteria. However, by the turn of the century few researchers were still active in this field and had cooled to this fingerprinting approach. This chapter presents a historical perspective of PyMS as applied for the rapid characterization of bacteria and fungi in the later part of the 20th century.
Microbial characterization, including detection, differentiation, and identification, are the most regular tasks of microbiology laboratories worldwide.
